CDC regret to announce that due to radio commitments CHIEF will not be able to play their show in Belfast, ticket refunds will be refundable from the point of purchase

Chief are Evan Koga, Mike Moonves, and brothers Danny and Michael Fujikawa. Born and raised in Los Angeles, the sound of the West Coast emanates through every note of their music. They released their captivating first single ‘Breaking Walls’ on 21st June. Breaking Walls is a sunny, melancholic track featuring Chief in stunning trademark vocal harmony and serves as a beautiful introduction to their forthcoming LP, Modern Rituals, due for release on September 20th. Already known in the UK via last year’s Mighty Proud single on Chess Club, This summer Chief opened for Pearl Jam in Hyde Park and played at Glastonbury festival and are due to play at a handful of festivals throughout the rest of the summer. Chief will play Belfast’s Auntie Annies Attic on Thursday 2nd September as part of their UK tour.

The story of Chief is one of two coasts. Though Evan Koga, Mike Moonves and brothers Danny and Michael Fujikawa were all born and raised in Los Angeles, they left for New York University, worlds away. It was in New York that they first got to know one another as collaborators, rumbling through a number of semi-serious projects and solo ventures before feeling swept away by a small run of songs Koga had penned and presented to them. He had written them under the name Chief, a moniker the brothers Danny and Michael opted to keep the day they first formed their band. It was on New York stages that they honed their songs and found their sound, a thoughtfully melodic update on summer and road records past. Neil Young. Tom Petty. The Band. Crosby, Stills and Nash. Natural, timeless songwriting for times that change too quickly. LA was never far away.

Two years ago the four members of Chief finished their stints at New York University and returned home to the US west coast, their suitcases stuffed full of soaring melodies, shimmering guitars, lovelorn lyrics and heart-stopping harmonies. Chief’s Evan Koga (vocals/guitar), brothers Danny and Michael Fujikawa (on vocals/ guitar and drums, respectively) and Mike Moonves (bass) evoke a grand sense of nostalgia with their heartfelt melancholy. Written and recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Grammy winner Emery Dobyns, Modern Rituals has sunshine seeping through every note. But if California is emanating from every crevasse then the resulting sound is as universal and world wearied as it gets. The album is thematic in its tales of romantic disappointments, left lovers and floundering emotions.
