Don Carter State Park Opens on July 15th

Georgia’s newest state park will open on Monday, July 15. RV and tent camping shall be available on a walk-in basis (advance reservations not available yet). Day-use facilities will be open; however, cabins won’t yet be available. We invite you have fun with Lake Lanier and this completely new swimming beach!

Don Carter is Georgia’s newest state park, as well as the first state park on 38,000-acre Lake Lanier. Positioned on the north end of the reservoir, the park offers excellent recreation for water lovers. Visitors can stay cool at a large, sand swimming beach with bath house. Boat ramps provide immediate access to the lake, while a paved, multi-use trail welcome hikers and bikers look around the hardwood forest.

This new park offers many choices for overnight getaways too. Two-bedroom cabins will available soon and are located on wooded hillsides next to the lake. One campground accommodates RVs, while another camping site is reserved exclusively for tents and hammocks.

The park is named in honor of real-estate executive Don Carter who served on the Georgia Department of Natural Resources board for 29 years and labored to create Lake Lanier’s first state park.
